Friday Jul 12, 2024
l'Abri Saturday Morning Lecture June 29th 2024
Speaker: Henk Reitsema
The political developments in the West today resemble the thirties of the previous century. What is going on in our society, why is there so much dissatisfaction about the prevailing order and how can a Christian act constructively in these turbulent times?
In this lecture we will analyse with a wide view and reflect on what our calling might be in these developments.

The Art of Solitude

Friday Jul 05, 2024
l'Abri Saturday Morning Lecture June 8th 2024
Speaker: Robb Ludwick
Increasing loneliness is regarded as one of the most concerning developments in our society. More community and less individualism seems to be the required antidote.
But isn't there also much to learn about how to be alone in a healthy and wholesome way? Aided by some biblical examples and some wisdom from thinkers through the ages we ask the question: what is the art of solitude?

Waarom moest Jezus sterven?
Thursday Apr 25, 2024
Thursday Apr 25, 2024
l'Abri Zaterdagochtendlezing 30 maart 2024
Spreker: Christa Ludwick-Rietkerk

Eschatology For The Common Life
Sunday Mar 10, 2024
Sunday Mar 10, 2024
l'Abri Saturday morning lecture March 2nd 2024
Speaker: Arthur Metz
What we expect from the future guides our present decisions, and since Jesus ascended to the heavens, promising to return and bring His Kingdom, Christians have anticipated, imagined, and lived this future.
However, the Christian faith is not the sole producer of future expectations. All kinds of utopias and desperate visions for the future also play a role in today’s society and can sometimes influence the Christian perspective itself.
What does the way we live the present reveal about our future hopes?
How can our current relationship with God, His creation, and others help us understand where our hopes lie?
And how can Christian hope for the future contribute to living a fulfilling and fruitful life in a troubled world?

l'Abri Saturday morning lecture February 3rd, 2024
Speaker: Henk Reitsema
The Bible has a surprising amount to say about this special category that to an extent faces the same difficulties as people in our time who struggle with their identity. God sees the eunuch and is awake particularly concerned with his dilemma.

Saturday Nov 11, 2023
Saturday Nov 11, 2023
l'Abri Saturday Morning Lecture November 11th, 2023
Speaker: Jan Pieter van Seventer
Artificial Intelligence (A.I) software has been around for years, but recently it has made its way into publicly available tools used for art, design, writing, programming and game world creation. Exploring the opportunities as well as the risks of this significant shift in digital creation, we will look at some examples and consider the potential consequences for creators.
Jan Pieter is the founder and managing director of Dutch Game Garden in Utrecht (www.dutchgamegarden.nl) and a lifelong friend of Dutch l’Abri.

What does it mean to be a Man?

l'Abri Saturday Morning Lecture October 28th 2023
Speaker: Philip Johnston
Since the rise of the MeToo movement in the mid-2010s, masculinity has re-entered the cultural conversation with force. On the left, masculinity is often seen as a problem and rarely referenced without “toxic” as a modifier. Men simply need to shape up and stand down.
On the right, a pro-male movement has bubbled up in response. Men simply need to own their dominance and take charge.
Does Christianity have anything different — or better — to say?
Philip is a former worker at English l’Abri and currently pastor of Hope Church in Greatham, England.

Should I stay or should I go? Reflections on decision making & commitment
Wednesday Oct 25, 2023

l'Abri Saturday Morning Lecture October 7th 2023
Speaker: Mika Metz
It is not big news that most of us struggle to make decisions, whether it is big ones, like "Which Study Should I Follow", or smaller ones, like picking one option from the restaurant menu! But the time and place we live in usually adds perspectives or challenges. For example: an overload of data and options may result in a paralysis of choice. Increasing distrust in leaders, institutions and media brings more insecurity to this process. Now we also hear of a post-pandemic label for GEN-Z: "The disengaged generation".
In this lecture we will reflect on how the pandemic affected our abilities to make decisions and commit. How do fear and trust play an important role in this process? What does the bible have to say about it?

”Substantial Healing”: een holistisch evangelie
Monday Sep 25, 2023
Monday Sep 25, 2023
l'Abri Zaterdagochtend lezing 9 september 2023
Spreker: Christa Ludwick-Rietkerk
