Over de wijsheid van de tweede levenshelft. In het rapport 'Nationaal programma voor ouderenzorg' van 2013 wordt geconstateerd dat er teveel wordt gepraat over oud worden alsof het een probleem is: dat er een omdenken plaats moet vinden van concentratie op 'zorg' naar aandacht en bezinning op 'welzijn'. Zo'n visie schiet hopeloos tekort als het daarbij blijft en niet uitmondt in 'roeping'. Kortom: het unieke van de ouderdom.

Over geweld: de paus en de rabbijn

De vreselijke wreedheden van de Taliban en Isis, maar net zo erg bij geradicaliseerde Joden en christenen, hebben paus Franciscus en Rabbi Jonathan Sacks gebracht tot een bezinning op de vraag waarom (ogenschijnlijk) religies mensen extra gewelddadig maken: de encycliek "Wij zijn toch allen broeders!" en het boek "Niet in Mijn naam!" Schuilt er geweld in de schuilhoeken van mijn eigen hart zodra ik de wereld wil verbeteren? het evangelie wijst op een hogere weg dan de paus en de Rabbijn voorstaan. Ook naar aanleiding van Beatrice de Graaf's "Heilige Strijd".

Parables are a useful learning tool already for a long time. Not just stories, but something that emphasizes an aspect of everyday life to add new views, or even new knowledge. Nowadays video games have a comparable potential to tell a story, or even bring an educational message through experience. The social isolation drove more of us to take part in online services from other congregations, to "consume" Christian content from many other preachers.
